Kalmar County Museum is a regional cultural history museum for Kalmar County. The museum is run in the form of a foundation with Kalmar Municipality, Kalmar County Council and Kalmar County Local Government Association as principals.
The museum has most of its activities in Kalmar steam mill's old premises, but Eketorp's castle and Wimmerströmska gården in Västervik are also parts of the museum.
The museum is the second largest county museum in the country with about 85 employees and 65 million in annual sales.
Kalmar County Museum has profiled itself in cultural heritage pedagogy and in 2007 had a national assignment to develop this. From the national mission, an international collaboration, later formalized in the association Bridging ages, emerged.
Kalmar County Museum also conducts commissioned activities in building maintenance, textile conservation and archeology.
The County Museum has been conducting investigations of the royal ship Kronan since 1981. A floor plan has been set aside for the exhibition about the Kronan. "Santa's mother" Jenny Nyström also has a larger permanent exhibition. In addition, a number of temporary exhibitions are shown each year.
Kalmar County Museum's collections reflect the county's prehistory and history. Parts of the museum's collections are available via the Digital Museum website.
